You are going to swoon over this modern lesbian wedding at the Vessel Art Gallery in Oakland. The contemporary venue, the gorgeous and tasty brunch reception, the succulent centerpieces and, of course, the two beaming brides mean this is a great wedding to end the year on.
Hey, Beautiful
Joanne and Shandra connected, like many busy people today, with the help of the internet. Once they had met in person they were hooked, although they took their time. Their relationship, intentional and mellow, blossomed steadily over the next few years.
A Modern Lesbian Wedding
The wedding decor Joanne & Shandra chose perfectly complemented the art gallery aesthetic – navy blue and gray with simple lines. I especially loved the Wishing Tree, their answer to a traditional guestbook, where guests hung handwritten cards with advice and well-wishes.
Do you know what a zither is? You should, because Shandra & Joanne had one played at their wedding and it was straight-up amazing. I’ll listen to that music anytime.
Here Come the Brides
Speaking of music, each bride walked up the aisle to her own song – “Love Today” by MIKA for Shandra, and the Rocky Theme Song for Joanne. Somehow this was just the right fit, exactly like the rest of their wedding.
Shandra was stunning in her Allure Romance gown from I Do! Bridal, all lacey with an incredible train, and her amazing bouquet from Pura Vida Flowers made the outfit. Joanne was just as dapper in her suit tailored by Thuy Custom Clothier. Together these two made the cutest picture, and just oozed love.
Adorable Flower Girl and Doggie Ring Bearer
While we are on cute, the flower girl and ring bearer – their niece and their dog – made a close second on the cuteness scale. OMG, adorable! And did I mentioned they walked down the aisle to “Who Let the Dogs Out?” Pure genius!
A Complete Affair
The reception brunch was catered by Pinx, which makes the most amazing soul food. Seriously, this family-run biz is one of my faves. And withA Monique Affair in charge, pulling everything together so skillfully, the only thing really left to do was relax and enjoy the day.
Congrats, Shandra & Joanne! I hope your married life is an unhurried river on a warm summer day, the breath of daffodils, the silent thunder of the dawn. All my best.
